SNOWSHOEING EXCURSIONS IN THE ALPS OF PIEDMONT



CAPANNA MAUTINO MOUNTAIN HUT - Upper Val Susa

Exposure : SE
Starting point elevation : 1.400 m.
Ending point elevation : 2.105 m.
Altitude gain (+-) : 600 m.
Hike duration (up and down) : 2h 30min / 1h 30min
Starting location : Bousson (Cesana Torinese , TO)
Difficulty :medium


The hike towards the Capanna Mautino mountain hut or the nearby Lago Nero (Black Lake) offers various hiking routes, all of which are easy and suitable for everyone, going through wonderful larch and pine woods. Once arrived, the views over the Pic de Rochebrune and the Monti della Luna (Moon's mountains) are simply breathtaking.
It is also possible to extend the snowhsoeing excursion, to reach the Fournier peak (+2h, +500 m.).
Descent on the way back, towards Bousson.

RIFUGIO RE MAGI MOUNTAIN HUT - Valle Stretta

Starting location : Pian del Colle (Melezet, Bardonecchia, TO)

Walking through pristine larch woods you will follow, according to the snow conditions, either the trail or the mule track towards the Rifugio Re Magi mountain hut, nestled in the wonderful, unspoilt Valle Stretta.
Once arrived at the hut it is possible to extend the snowshoeing hike towards the Fonderia Pass, to have a taste of a wilder Alpine environment.
Descent on the way back, towards Pian del Colle.

RIFUGIO JERVIS MOUNTAIN HUT - Val Pellice

Hike duration (up and down) : 1h 45min / 1h 15min
Starting location : Villanova (Bobbio Pellice, TO)

Starting from the ancient hamlet of Villanova, you will follow the trail that flows alongside the Pellice river, which gives its name to the whole valley, reaching the Cascata del Pis waterfall (which is frozen during winter) and the Conca del Pra plateau afterwards. In the middle of the Conca lies the cozy Rifugio Jervis mountain hut, the perfect place to get a taste of Alpine hospitality and traditional cuisine. Once at the hut, it is possible to extend the snowshoeing experience, walking towards the Barant pass, with stunning views over the Alps of Piedmont.
Descent on the way back, towards Villanova.

RIFUGIO SELLERIES MOUNTAIN HUT - Val Chisone

Ending point elevation : 2.035 m.
Altitude gain (+-) : 365 m.
Hike duration (up and down) : 1h 30min / 1h
Starting location : Pra Catinat (Fenestrelle, TO)
Difficulty :easy


Starting from the Pra Catinat parking lot, the trail enters the woods and continues on the unpaved road that runs at the feet of the Mt. Orsiera, with great views over the Chisone Valley, leading to the Rifugio Selleries mountain hut. Once reached the hut it is possible to proceed towards the Chadonet col or the Laux lake, below the Cristalliera peak.
Descent on the way back, towards Pra Catinat.

SNOWSHOEING EXCURSIONS IN THE ALPS OF AOSTA VALLEY



RIFUGIO BONATTI - Val Ferret, Monte Bianco

Ending point elevation : 2.025 m.
Altitude gain (+-) : 409 m.
Hike duration (up and down) : 2h / 1h 30min
Starting location : Plampincieux (Courmayeur , AO)
Difficulty :easy


Starting at the valley floor, following an unpaved road and then trails that lead into the woods, you will enter the Armina side valley, walking at first through a pine grove, then on open terrains up to the Rifugio Bonatti mountain hut. From there, you will enjoy stunning views over the Mont Blanc and the other peaks of Aosta Valley Alps.
From the hut it is possible to hike further, reaching the Entre deux Sauts pass.
Descent on the way back, towards Plampincieux.

Starting from the wonderful Ceresole lake you will follow a steep trail that enters a larch wood, then reaching open plateaus with great views over the peaks of Gran Paradiso National Park, through several Alpine hamlets, up to the wonderful Dres Lake.
Descent on the way back, towards Ceresole Reale.
