Hiking and Trekking - Clothing and Equipment


Here are some suggestions about all the stuff you should bring for a one-or two-days trek.


  • Comfortable trouser for trekking. We suggest the convertible pants that can be both long and short, with an easy zip system. An extra pair is recommended for more than 2 or 3 days tours.
  • Waterproof pants cover and poncho, if rain is expected
  • 2 pairs of thick socks. An extra pair is recommended for more than 2 or 3 days tours.
  • High or low heeled waterproof hiking boots (high heeled hiking boots recommended when is possibile to find snow on the trail - for example in early season)
  • Long-sleeved thermal base layer
  • 2 breathable shirts or t-shirts. An extra pair or more is recommended for more than 2 or 3 days tours.
  • Fleece jacket
  • Light breathable water and wind-proof jacket (“Hard Shell”)
  • Scarf or neck warmer
  • Hat or bandana
  • Sunglasses
  • Gloves
  • Towel

  • Trekking poles with pointed ends (essential when on snow or glaciers)
  • 30-40lt backpack
  • First Aid Kit (bandages, disinfectant, scissors, mineral salts, general medications)
  • 1lt water bottle
  • Snacks (we suggest nuts, dried fruit and chocolate)
  • Sunscreen (protection 20 minimum)
  • Insect repellant
  • Wet wipes

Mountain huts

  • Mountains huts are average-sized buildings offering overnight stay, meal, shower and bathroom services.
  • Accommodation varies between dormitories and rooms for 2 or more people.
  • A sleeping bag liner (which can be purchased in the hut) is usually all that is needed to stay overnight; blankets and pillows are provided.
  • Hot shower is usually available, sometimes you need to pay a little extra.
  • The hut staff cook meals on the spot and can prepare sandwiches for excursions.
  • Snacks and beverages, including alcoholic drinks, can also be purchased.
  • Telephone calls can be made and internet navigation is sometimes available.

Mountain huts - Equipment to bring

  • Sleeping bag liner (usually is it possibile to buy it on-site, price 3 euro ca.)
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and soap
  • Towel
  • Spare underwear
  • Comfortable pants for the evening
  • Slippers (usually provided by refuge)
  • Torch or headlamp (better)
  • Ear plugs and mask for sleeping
