LEVEL
For anyone in good health able to walk 6/8 hours a day with developments of 15/20 km and differences in height accumulated in various ups and downs of +/- 1000 m. The itinerary develops mainly on comfortable white roads and wide mule tracks without ever tackling long and steep climbs.
TOUR TYPE
Itinerant trekking with excursion guide and overnight stays in hotels, mountain huts and local b&b. Overnight stays in the refuge are provided in dormitories and with shared bathrooms. Luggage transfer service on each stage included; possibility, upon request, to take one or more days off. Return to the starting point by train.
HIGHLIGHTS
- An unforgettable experience for all hikers who love the outdoors at 360°: the Via del Sale combines the beauties of the mountain environment with the coastal ones in a single route.
- Hiking on the traces of an ancient traders route who transported salt from the coast to the hinterland.
- Around 100km of trekking, from Colle di Tenda (1800m), crossing the mountains to enjoy the aesthetic satisfaction of reaching the Mediterranean waters.
- The trek develops largely on the Italian-French border ridge, historically strategic places for the defense of the territory, evidenced by military roads, Alpine passes and fortifications dating from the end of the 1800s to the Second World War.
- An itinerary mainly on comfortable white roads and wide mule tracks, with stunning views all around.
- 6-8 hours of walking per day, with luggage transport service included to make the trek on the planned stages more pleasant. On request it is possible to organize shuttle transfers to allow recovery days.
- Overnight stays in cozy mountain huts and small local b&b, renowned for their typical cuisine and located in idyllic places to enjoy a well-deserved rest at the end of the trekking days.
- Accompaniment and assistance of one of our expert hiking guides for the entire duration of the trek.

Day 2, August 29: Transfer to the Le Marmotte chalet, trek Col di Tenda (1800m) - Don Barbera mountain hut (2250m)
Day 3, August 30: Trek Don Barbera mountain hut - La Terza mountain hut (2050m)
Day 4, August 31: Trek La Terza mountain hut - Allavena mountain hut (1550m)
Day 5, September 1: Trek Allavena mountain hut - Gola di Gouta mountain hut (1200m)
Day 6, September 2: Trek Gola di Gouta mountain hut - Piccola Sparta b&b (Dolceacqua, 500m)
Day 7, September 3: Trek Piccola Sparta b&b - Ventimiglia, return by train to Turin
