ALTA VIA 1 TREKKING TOUR

WHERE
Start / End : Gressoney-Sant-Jean (Aosta Valley).
LEVEL
Suitable for hikers in good shape, capable to walk at least 6 hours and 15km a day on mountain trails, sometimes on rocky terrain, with an average altitude gain of +/- 1.100m.
The program can be customized according to your experience and fitness level.
RECOMMENDED PERIOD
From mid July to mid September.
From mid June to mid July snow can be present on high passes, hence the use of crampons and hiking poles is recommended.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Alta Via Trail 1 in Aosta Valley, known as the Alta Via dei Giganti, or "The giants’ trail", is a trekking route through incomparable scenery, across the foothills of some of the highest peaks in Europe such as Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
- A well-marked trail, suitable for everyone, that crosses the Gressoney valley, through Champoluc, Valtournanache, Valpelline, Gran San Bernando and Val Ferret to Courmayeur.
- Follow the trails of Tor des Géants, one of the most attractive endurance trail race in the world crossing the Alps of Aosta Valley, maintaining an average altitude of around 2.000 m. and often reaching almost 3000 m.
- Despite being in the easily-reachable Alps of Italy, Alta Via has nothing to envy the most popular Himalayan trekking, with the benefit of cozy accommodations in the mountain huts and the great local food of Aosta Valley.

A self guided tour is perfect for hikers with previous experience, with a good sense of direction and able to read a trail map and/or use a navigation app.
